My relationship with silk started in the past when my back started troubling me and yes it became painful to turn in the bed through the night. Basically wore a satin dress, turning was a little easier. So I bought some silk and made my first silk sheet. With satin night clothes along with a silk sheet there was no resistance and nights were a lot more comfortable. Relatives and buddies shared inside my discovery, i really began to making silk sheets for some individuals too.

Silk later became hard to source locally, and thus in 2004 I undertook a trip to China with the hope of finding a suitable supply of fabric. Initially I discovered it tough to learn what I had been trying to find as Chinese policy seems to actively discourage the export of unworked silk fabric. But following a fair level of endeavour, I was able to get the best supply of wide silk, suitable for luxury bedding. Silk is really a strong fibre that will last a long time with proper care. I wash my silk, and satin, from the appliance on the gentle, cool cycle plus a short spin. Use regular non-bleach detergent from the machine and as silk sheets dry in a short time, bring them inside again after one hour. Glowing be tumble dried with a low heat cycle. Use a cool iron if desired. For me, our life is simply too short to iron sheets, so I never do! Heat, sun and halogen lighting are damaging to silk. Slubs and variations from the weave are thought part of silk's natural splendor. The information is kind in your sleeping skin (cheeks won't wrinkle!). Some skin moisturisers even contain silk proteins. Silk is wonderful for allergy sufferers, as dustmites are unable to live within its fibres. Insects avoid eating silk. Both silk and satin pillow cases are known for their power to have a persons hairdo set up while one sleeps. Silk is warm during winter and cool in Summer. I know reside in an area which is famous for extremely humid and hot summers and thus am very grateful for that coolness in the fabric during hot spells. Silk works much the same as modern self-wicking fabrics in removing moisture in the skin. As opposed to threadcount such as cotton, silk is measured in mommes (mm), the industry weight measurement. The silk that we found great for use in making sheets is 16mm Habutai Silk. Habutai is among several silk fabric types, differentiated through the weave used.
