Hip-hop soul is recognized as more aged than contemporary R&B, and targets a grown-up audience. This is primarily due to the genre's target the seamier areas of life; hip-hop soul singers also use adult language and themes, which includes drawn censure from those who have the genre of music, much like hip-hop, glorifies negative stereotypes.
