A visiting lecturer with the University of Brighton has launched a publishing initiative to improve funds for educating Syrian children surviving in camps in Iraqi Kurdistan. In October 2015 Julie Pratten told us that she received a Facebook message seeking help from a logistics officer in the Domiz camp near Dohuk in Iraqi Kurdistan. She then launched a crowdfunding initiative to boost money to setup a college inside the camp.

Ms Pratten said she was told how the volunteers who work in the camp were so busy managing health problems that no-one had the capacity to essentially engage the kids”, she said. “They didn’t possess activities, some type of computer, or craft supplies, they didn’t actually have a room where they can play.”She took to convey that they are given permission to show a “mobile unit, filled with old boxes” from the camp right into a classroom, which Kaniwar, plus some other volunteers inside the camp cleared out and filled with donated craft supplies and furniture borrowed from a local school away from camp. The Heart School runs by a local English teacher, who is and a refugee. Up to now, the project has raised around ?3,000.If we started “The kids were queuing up outside to type in the classroom,” Ms Pratten continued. “We can show about 100 kids. These kids have already been through a lot. Many of them choosing a lump sum their parents to the war. Others have mislaid their friends on the sea. At this time they only have to play and sing and have a bit of fun. For 4 years they’ve visited that camp in addition to their lives have been getting hold.”The objective of the publishing initiative would be to raise funds to compliment the varsity. ‘Now that this school is set up I am worried about the sustainability of the project. Asking people for money is and so i made a decision to change my strategy and ask for the aid of the international community of ELT Syrianrefugeescrowdsourced activity book English language teaching Julie Pratten. I drawn authors and teachers to ‘donate’ one activity each. The first publication, A-Z of Hope is really a crowdsourced book of 26 activities for young learners to teenagers for the universal theme of joy and happiness. The response from authors continues to be overwhelming. Book 1 and a couple of are fully subscribed and now we use a waiting listing of authors prepared to help if someone can’t submit. We now have over 160 authors registered who are prepared to contribute to future projects. The initial book will likely be posted at eliminate April and this will be launched in the Annual IATEFL conference to be held from 13 to 16 April at the ICC in Birmingham.
