A visiting lecturer with the University of Brighton has launched a publishing initiative to raise funds for educating Syrian children living in camps in Iraqi Kurdistan. In October 2015 Julie Pratten told us that she received a Facebook message requesting the help of a logistics officer at the Domiz camp near Dohuk in Iraqi Kurdistan. She then launched a crowdfunding initiative to increase money to set up a college from the camp.

Ms Pratten said she was told how the volunteers who operate in the camp were so busy managing medical issues that no-one had the capacity to completely build relationships the kids”, she said. “They didn’t have activities, your personal computer, or craft supplies, they didn’t actually have a room where they can play.”She continued to say them to be given permission to turn a “mobile unit, brimming with old boxes” inside the camp right into a classroom, which Kaniwar, and a few other volunteers in the camp cleared out and stuffed with donated craft supplies and furniture borrowed from the local school outside the camp. The Heart School operates by way of a local English teacher, who is also a refugee. To date, the project has raised around ?3,000.Once we started “The kids were queuing up outside to go into the classroom,” Ms Pratten continued. “We can show about 100 kids. These kids happen to be by way of a lot. A lot of them have mislaid their parents to the war. Others have mislaid their friends for the sea. At this point they just should play and sing this will let you little fun. For Four years they’ve experienced that camp along with their lives have been on hold.”The aim of the publishing initiative is always to raise funds to support the college. ‘Now how the school is to establish We are interested in the sustainability with the project. Asking people for the money is tough i really chose to change my strategy and ask for the aid of the international community of ELT Syrianrefugeescrowdsourced activity book English language teaching Julie Pratten. The response from authors has been overwhelming. Book 1 and a pair of are fully subscribed and that we have a very waiting list of authors willing to part of if a person can’t submit. We've over 160 authors enrolled who are willing to help with future projects. The first book will likely be posted at the end of April and it'll be launched with the Annual IATEFL conference being held from 13 to 16 April at the ICC in Birmingham.
