My relationship with silk started a long time ago when my back started troubling me and it became painful to turn over in your bed through the night. Easily wore a satin dress, turning was a little easier. And so i bought some silk generating my first silk sheet. With satin night clothes plus a silk sheet there was no resistance and nights were much more comfortable. Family and friends shared in my discovery, and so i began to making silk sheets persons too.

Silk later became difficult to source locally, therefore in 2004 I undertook a vacation in China with the aspiration of looking for a suitable source of fabric. Initially I came across it tough to determine what I was trying to find as Chinese policy appears to actively discourage the export of unworked silk fabric. But after a fair amount of endeavour, I became able to uncover a trusted way to obtain wide silk, ideal for luxury bedding. Silk is really a strong fibre which will last for many years with proper care. I wash my silk, and satin, in the appliance with a gentle, cool cycle plus a short spin. Use regular non-bleach detergent within the machine and as silk sheets dry quickly, bring them inside again after 1 hour. Like be tumble dried on a low heat cycle. Work with a cool iron if desired. In my view, life is way too short to iron sheets, and so i never do! Heat, sun and halogen lighting are damaging to silk. Slubs and variations within the weave are viewed part of silk's pure beauty. The material is kind on your sleeping skin (cheeks won't wrinkle!). Some skin moisturisers even contain silk proteins. Silk is wonderful for allergy sufferers, as dust mites cannot live within its fibres. Insects don't try to eat silk. Both silk and satin pillow cases provide capacity to maintain a persons hairdo available while one sleeps. Silk is warm in the wintertime and funky in Summer. I know reside in a location which is renowned for extremely humid and hot summers and so am very grateful for the coolness of the fabric during hot spells. Silk works quite similar as modern self-wicking fabrics in removing moisture from the skin. Rather than threadcount as in cotton, silk is measured in mommes (mm), that is a weight measurement. The silk that we found ideal for use in making sheets is 16mm Habutai Silk. Habutai is one of several silk fabric types, differentiated with the weave used.
