My relationship with silk started long ago when my back started troubling me and yes it became painful to turn in your bed during the night. Easily wore a satin dress, turning would have been a little easier. Therefore i bought some silk generating my first silk sheet. With satin night clothes and a silk sheet there was no resistance and nights were a whole lot more comfortable. Friends shared in my discovery, therefore i begun to making silk sheets for others too.

Silk later became tough to source locally, therefore in 2004 I undertook a vacation in China with the hope of finding a suitable way to obtain fabric. Initially I discovered it very difficult to discover what I was searching for as Chinese policy appears to actively discourage the export of unworked silk fabric. But after a fair volume of endeavour, I had been able to find a reliable source of wide silk, suited to luxury bedding. Silk is a strong fibre that can be very durable with care. I wash my silk, and satin, in the washer over a gentle, cool cycle plus a short spin. Use regular non-bleach detergent in the machine in addition to being silk sheets dry very quickly, drive them inside again after an hour or so. They may also be tumble dried over a low heat cycle. Make use of a cool iron if desired. In my opinion, life is way too short to iron sheets, so I never do! Heat, sun and halogen lighting are damaging to silk. Slubs and variations in the weave are viewed section of silk's natural beauty. The material is kind for your sleeping skin (cheeks won't wrinkle!). Some skin moisturisers even contain silk proteins. Silk will last allergy sufferers, as insects are unable to live within its fibres. Insects do not eat silk. Both silk and satin pillow cases have power to keep a persons hairdo available while one sleeps. Silk is warm in the wintertime and cool in Summer. I live in a region that is renowned for extremely humid and hot summers and thus am very grateful for the coolness in the fabric during hot spells. Silk works very similar as modern self-wicking fabrics in removing moisture from the skin. As an alternative to threadcount such as cotton, silk is measured in mommes (mm), the industry weight measurement. The silk that I found best for used in making sheets is 16mm Habutai Silk. Habutai is one kind of several silk fabric types, differentiated from the weave used.
