One of the first influential memories I`ve from my childhood is my Dad teaching me the proper way to hold a pool game cue. Dad wouldn't admit to like a 'shark' in order to 'hustling' but because I got older the evidence became clearer. After, what seemed to be years, of staring longingly at the cues hanging majestically on the wall I used to be finally being given the ability to learn how to utilize one. My Dad had long since reached the standard of player where he might make, a few things i now know to get simple shots, using virtually any pool. This was not saying that he had no idea about the magnitude with the importance of picking the most effective pool cue. This was not a privilege being taken lightly and lessons best places to have my up-most attention. I had created listened, with starry eyes, to stories of Dad coming to the pool hall, as a teen, perfecting his craft and walking away rewarded with extra jingle in their pocket. You can think of the sweetness of the child - someone was purchased playing a game! Really? I was required to learn more about.

Firstly. Dad instructed me to choose a pool stick cue out of your rack. Realizing that he'd his 'special' best pool cue, I clued in to the fact that this approach held some importance. I picked up a 42 inch, one piece cue with diamond etching on the shaft and looked to Dad for approval. His response was, 'How does it feel?' It felt like I had been holding the ultimate goal! I was still at a loss for the privilege rather than really understanding what he meant by 'feel'. He showed me how you can form a 'crook' using my hand put on the table with my forefinger raised and together with my thumb forming a circle to the cue to slip through, being sure that as I drew it forward and backward the cue stayed true and did not wobble. Like lots of things, this was much harder to do than what dad made it look. In doing this he was teaching me the value of governing the cue smoothly to finish a clear shot. Now I wasn't actually hitting a cue ball, just practicing my stance, hand position and stoke. He explained, 'the pool stick cue should seem like section of you, imagine it is your third arm, work as one unit heading to the cue ball.' Here ended his first lesson. I had been left to apply striking the imaginary ball. Yearly months I anticipated my lessons. Understanding the different hand positions, angle shots, bank shots, etc. While i young teenager I could proudly proclaim that I had perfected the fluke shot! Next lesson was that a majority of games didn't allow flukes and call shot was the typical rule. I learned the need for the angles available and suddenly geometry didn't seem so boring! When i spent my childhood years playing pool with Dad was our bonding time. It took over as the place for him not just to spread his passion information with the sport, but where he told stories of his youth and gave advice to conditions just seemed much easier to discuss when pocketing the eight ball. Following the last fork packed with dessert of a holiday meal ended up swallowed the issue always followed: 'Whose up for a bet on pool?' We'd all fall into line and head right down to the swimming pool table to get our right the score board. Dad spent much time teaching his children and as a consequence their children (even a few great-grandchildren) how to play pool. Many of us realize that of a wonderful privilege it had been and now we all treasure the gorgeous memories we've of bonding with him on the number of games of Snooker and Billiards, that became this type of family tradition.
