'If everyone would come after me, he should deny himself and simply take up his cross and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a guy to gain the world, yet lose his soul'? Mark 8 34-36, NIV This has been a long arduous summer and yet therefore completely alive with the possibilites that God has shown me. I am fast approaching the not exactly completed task of co-authoring a book on natural dog health with a holistic veterinarian, introduced out a new product line with Saving Grace Enterprises, and ramping up for an online meeting with veterinarians, medical practioners, etc., to help educate on ending a superbug staph illness. Now this all sounds sort of serious right? Well perhaps not in accordance with what God has been telling me all week Last Sunday in-service, our pastor had an incredibly interesting sermon on Psalm 23 even as we closed out a set on The Godward Heart. We've all heard and read that psalm because we were children most-likely, no matter what Christian faith we're. Nevertheless, I have never noticed it introduced like this and that's most likely why it resonated so loudly with me. Should you fancy to discover new information on like i said, there are millions of databases people might pursue. I'd like to do my usual roundabout method of getting to the idea here... Psalm 23 is focused on the Shepard and His sheep, right? Understanding what a shepard's job was and how h-e went about this in Jesus' day is what got my attention. Anyone who has read my articles here understand that I'm not just a pet lover but my business is a business in natural pet care. When our pastor began describing how a shepard cares for his sheep and what tools he employs, I felt like God was sitting close to me and whispering in my ear and it sent shivers up my back in a most beautiful way I've wondered for-a long-time how God would use me in a natural pet-care business. He Then brought me together with Dee Kreidel and Saving Grace Enterprises to produce our new product line-in custom hand-tooled leather collars, leashes and magazines. Huh I said? How can that choose natural pet-care Lord? I obtained an interesting answer Sunday AND one that explained not to take myself so seriously. I will arrive at all-that in a little. The shepard had an employee (most of us know that) that was about 5 or 6 ft tall I really believe our pastor said. It had the lift by the end most of us learn about and which was to keep sheep gathered in and not wandering. Sound familiar? Ever wonder why God identifies us as sheep? It is not a lovely statement because they're not the best creatures in creation, and they need constant tending and supervision. The shepard also carried a baton regarding the size of what our police officers bring today. He'd use that to fend off attacking predators. H-e also used it for something a little more hard. If one sheep was continually wandering off and maybe not learning to stay with the herd, the shepard could use the baton to split one or two of this sheep's legs and then quickly set them. Then he had carry that sheep around his neck until he was fully cured. The purpose? For the sheep to become influenced by the shepard for all its requirements and to bond entirely with him. Again, God does the sam-e to His children. Yet another interesting point the shepard would do is to put oil on each sheep's head and also body to defend against pests (bugs, ticks, flies, the usual suspects). Today the oil known isn't your vegetable cooking oil as that could not reduce the chances of insects. Nope it was what we now know as essential oils (which in addition still are used extensively because part of the world for their healing benefits and fast-growing here in the UNITED STATES) combined with almost certainly olive oil. The oils served another purpose also. Sheep are goofy and get angry together over any such thing (again like us). When they did get angry, they had go getting into each other to butt heads so difficult that they can destroy each other. Using the oil on their heads, it would help them to skid off each other keeping them from killing each other. Yep, I'm getting to your pet organization with Dee and the 'serious stuff.' Therefore for their own safety the shepard would take a big leather poncho he'd use during inclement weather and also use as a 'pup tent' of sorts to settle. So we've got Dee's leather products and my essential oils from the dog business. Hmmm. Leather was the Shepard's security. Oil through the entire Bible is representative of the Holy Spirit. He uses animals as examples of us. Is someone else 'seeing' this? God will certainly use whichever, wherever, whomever for His purpose and beauty if we only get the heck from the way. Be relieved of ourselves in order that Jesus could reign and work. He'll protect us and He will provide for us. Here was what was so interesting if you ask me when our pastor got to the Three Points of Ap-plication part 1. Since the Shepard is in get a grip on, I dont need to just take myself so seriously. It is ABOUT Him. This does not mean to not take ISSUES on the planet really because we ought to. It indicates never to get OURSELVES so seriously. If we do keep taking ourselves so seriously, then that is really internalized pleasure and wrong thinking rooted in-the inability to surrender. 2. Because the Shepard cares, I will release my problems to Him. Matthew 11:28, 1 Peter 5:7. 3. As the Shepard is certified, I could trust Him to guide my life. God said in no uncertain terms not only WHAT I'm designed to be doing but additionally WHY, and HOW all of it tied in with WHO He's. What H-e did not tell me was WHEN. Leave it to Him to keep tempering and teaching as He goes about His purpose. On Tuesday or Wednesday after this fascinating sermon on Sunday, John Fischer of a Purpose Driven Life wrote this in his devotional Acquittal by Penguin the following paragraph 'This isn't to state that any behavior in-the natural kingdom legitimizes similar activity among human beings, but I really do think God has provided us animals to mirror human behavior, and help us see ourselves in yet another light and not simply take ourselves or our roles so seriously. ' (italics mine) Hey, you think God is attempting to tell me something? Therefore then I was listening to some contemporary Christian music o-n Thursday while doing my housework. I had been playing Jennifer Knapp's C-d, Lay it Down, and the track 'In-to You' got o-n. What in the chorus 'ease me of myself, carry me into You' just stuck out like a sore thumb and I have heard that song a variety of times. I KNOW God was telling me to take a chill pill, lay it down, trust Him, do not take myself so seriously, He has an objective for the work I am doing so allow Him to work, be treated of myself, rely on Him and just enjoy the ride WHEW What a ride too brethren. So if anyone is getting too 'puffed up' maybe all of us should just overcome ourselves and sleep inside the Shepard.
