My relationship with silk started a long time ago when my back started troubling me and it became painful to turn in the bed during the night. Basically wore a satin dress, turning was obviously a little easier. And so i bought some silk making my first silk sheet. With satin night clothes along with a silk sheet there wasn't any resistance and nights were a whole lot more comfortable. Friends shared in my discovery, therefore i did start to making silk sheets for others too.

Silk later became difficult to source locally, and so in 2004 I undertook a vacation to China with the aspiration of finding a suitable method to obtain fabric. Initially I ran across it very difficult to learn what I became looking for as Chinese policy seems to actively discourage the export of unworked silk fabric. But from a fair amount of endeavour, I used to be able to get a reliable method to obtain wide silk, well suited for luxury bedding. Silk can be a strong fibre that can be very durable with proper care. I wash my silk, and satin, from the appliance on the gentle, cool cycle along with a short spin. Use regular non-bleach detergent inside the machine in addition to being silk sheets dry in a short time, drive them inside again after an hour or so. Glowing be tumble dried on the low heat cycle. Make use of a cool iron if desired. In my opinion, life's too short to iron sheets, so I never do! Heat, sun and halogen lighting are damaging to silk. Slubs and variations inside the weave are believed a part of silk's natural beauty. The pad is kind for your sleeping skin (cheeks won't wrinkle!). Some skin moisturisers even contain silk proteins. Silk is useful for allergy sufferers, as dust mites aren't able to live within its fibres. Insects do not eat silk. Both silk and satin pillow cases provide capacity to keep a persons hairdo set up while one sleeps. Silk is warm in Winter and cool in Summer. Personally, i live in a location that is certainly famous for extremely hot and humid summers and so am very grateful for the coolness in the fabric during hot spells. Silk works a very similar as modern self-wicking fabrics in removing moisture through the skin. As opposed to threadcount as with cotton, silk is measured in mommes (mm), the industry weight measurement. The silk which i found ideal for used in making sheets is 16mm Habutai Silk. Habutai is one kind of several silk fabric types, differentiated through the weave used.
