As Yemen descends further into war, a hunger crisis is also escalating. The Un reports that food is "scarce" inside the conflict zones in southern Yemen. Vendors are unable to restock their supplies. Food price is soaring. Displaced Yemenis in Abyan, Al Dhale'e and Lahj governorates need food assistance. Host communities to the displaced are selling food aid. However, the UN warns that this cannot be sustained. The host communities themselves suffer from hunger and possess little reserve. اليمن, and before the newest violence, was mired in hunger and poverty. Based on the World Food Programme (WFP) over 40 percent of Yemenis are afflicted by hunger. Around 5 million Yemenis deal with severe hunger.

WFP was likely to feed 6 000 0000 Yemenis prior to the latest conflict erupted. Also facing massive hunger emergencies in Syria and Iraq, WFP is going to be called upon to provide food assist with Yemen's war victims. The UN food agency was facing a shortage of funds for its Yemen mission according to a study covering February. WFP relies seen on voluntary donations. As Houthi rebels battle forces faithful to Yemen's ousted president, a civil war looms. It gets more dangerous as Al Qaeda in Yemen is gaining strength amid this chaos. As time passes probably the most deadly foe may be the hunger and malnutrition. UNICEF is reporting lack of Plumpy'Nut in four governorates. Plumpy'Nut is a peanut paste used to treat child malnutrition. Without food, students are likely to suffer lasting physical and mental damage, or death. Combined with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF is arranging the delivery of extra Plumpy'nut of those governorates short of funds. Yemen has long struggled with child malnutrition, with many in the highest rates on the globe. Countless children need special foods like Plumpy'Nut. Entry to those displaced though remains a challenge for aid groups. Humanitarian agencies are demanding a ceasefire to bring in food as well as other life-saving aid.
