For people who spent my childhood years in the 80s movies, the music activity of these decade will remain the soundtrack on the key moments of our lives. Music provides for a time machine, transporting us back through time and rekindling memories, both pros and cons, and 1980s music provided a tune for each event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest as well as the music reflected this requirement for change. The last decade began hanging on to the coattails from the Punk revolution that took direct action from the bland musical fare from the late seventies, but finished stadium rock, manufactured mass produced pop along with a confidence and swagger that matched earth's mood as we entered the 90's in a spirit of optimism and hope with falling in the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn with the MTV era meant the overall look of an band was as essential as their musical ability which principle was seized upon with the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders up to it delighted their peers. Having begun in this state of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as technologies emerged and artists, musicians and film makers began to experiment. However, as the decade unfurled, hence the mainstream music, once again, returned to some formulaic approach using the production companies, just like the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. Music had truly become all the a visual medium as a possible aural one. Nevertheless, a solid 'alternative' scene survived within these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Hip Hop and House. 1980s music laid the principles for so most of the background music we listen to today.
