For everyone who spent my youth within the 1980s, the music activity of that decade will continue the soundtrack for the key moments of our own lives. Music provides for a time machine, transporting us back over time and rekindling memories, the good and the bad, and 1980s music provided a tune for every event because tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest along with the music reflected this requirement of change. The last decade began hanging to the coattails with the Punk revolution that took direct action against the bland musical fare from the late seventies, but finished stadium rock, manufactured made in huge amounts pop plus a confidence and swagger that matched the world's mood once we entered the 90's in the spirit of optimism and hope with falling with the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn in the MTV era meant that the look and feel of the band was as vital as their musical ability and also this principle was seized upon through the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders up to it delighted their peers. Having begun in this condition of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as technologies emerged and artists, musicians and movie makers started to experiment. However, as the decade unfurled, hence the mainstream music, again, returned to a formulaic approach using the production companies, much like the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw the growth of the producer - the front people with the bands selected as much for eye candy appeal as any talent or capacity to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become all the a visual medium as a possible aural one. Nevertheless, a robust 'alternative' scene survived with these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Hip Hop and House. 1980s music laid the principles for therefore most of the music we pay attention to today.
