For all of us who grew up inside the 80s movies, the songs of that decade will remain the soundtrack for the key moments of our own lives. Music provides a time machine, transporting us back over the years and rekindling memories, the two good and bad, and 1980s music provided a tune for every event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest as well as the music reflected this need for change. The last decade began hanging to the coattails from the Punk revolution that took direct action from the bland musical fare in the late seventies, but finished stadium rock, manufactured mass produced pop along with a confidence and swagger that matched earth's mood as we entered the 90's inside a spirit of optimism and hope with falling of the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn with the MTV era meant that the looks of an band was as vital as their musical ability and this principle was seized upon with the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders up to it delighted their peers. Having begun in this condition of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as new technology emerged and artists, musicians and movie makers started to experiment. However, since the decade unfurled, and so the mainstream music, again, returned into a formulaic approach with the production companies, like the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw the growth from the producer - leading men and women from the bands selected as much for eye candy appeal just like any talent or capacity to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become all the a visual medium just as one aural one. Nevertheless, a strong 'alternative' scene survived throughout these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Rap and House. 1980s music laid the foundations for so a lot of the songs we listen to today.
