For all of us who spent my childhood years from the 80s, the music of that decade will continue to be the soundtrack for the key moments of our own lives. Music provides for a time machine, transporting us back over time and rekindling memories, both the good and bad, and 1980s music provided a tune for each event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest along with the music reflected this dependence on change. The decade began hanging onto the coattails from the Punk revolution that took direct action against the bland musical fare in the late seventies, but through with stadium rock, manufactured made in huge amounts pop along with a confidence and swagger that matched the world's mood even as we entered the 90's inside a spirit of optimism and hope with falling from the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn from the MTV era meant the overall look of the band was as vital as their musical ability and this principle was seized upon from the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders as much as it delighted their peers. Having begun in this particular state of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as technology emerged and artists, musicians and movie makers began to experiment. However, since the decade unfurled, therefore the mainstream music, yet again, returned with a formulaic approach with all the production companies, such as the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw an upswing of the producer - top people in the bands selected all the for their eye candy appeal as any talent or capability to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become the maximum amount of a visible medium as an aural one. Nevertheless, a powerful 'alternative' scene survived through these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Rap and House. 1980s music laid the foundations for so much of the music activity we listen to today.
