For everyone who grew up within the 1980s, the songs of that decade will remain the soundtrack on the key moments in our lives. Music acts as a time machine, transporting us back through time and rekindling memories, the pros and cons, and 1980s music provided a tune for each event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest and also the music reflected this dependence on change. The last decade began hanging about the coattails in the Punk revolution that took direct action from the bland musical fare from the late seventies, but finished stadium rock, manufactured made in huge amounts pop as well as a confidence and swagger that matched the earth's mood as we entered the 90's within a spirit of optimism and hope with falling from the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn of the MTV era meant the look and feel of a band was as vital as their musical ability which principle was seized upon with the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders as much as it delighted their peers. Having begun in that condition of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as technology emerged and artists, musicians and film makers did start to experiment. However, since the decade unfurled, and so the mainstream music, again, returned into a formulaic approach using the production companies, such as the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw an upswing with the producer - leading women and men with the bands selected just as much for his or her eye candy appeal because talent or capacity to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become the maximum amount of a visual medium as a possible aural one. Nevertheless, a strong 'alternative' scene survived through these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Hiphop and House. 1980s music laid the foundations for so most of the music activity we listen to today.
