For people who spent my youth within the 80s music, the songs of the decade will stay the soundtrack for the key moments of our lives. Music behaves as a time machine, transporting us back through time and rekindling memories, the good and the bad, and 1980s music provided a tune for each and every event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest and the music reflected this requirement for change. The last decade began hanging to the coattails from the Punk revolution that took direct action up against the bland musical fare from the late seventies, but finished with stadium rock, manufactured mass produced pop plus a confidence and swagger that matched earth's mood once we entered the 90's within a spirit of optimism and hope with falling with the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn from the MTV era meant the looks of a band was as essential as their musical ability and also this principle was seized upon through the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders just as much as it delighted their peers. Having begun in this state of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as technology emerged and artists, musicians and movie makers started to experiment. However, because the decade unfurled, therefore the mainstream music, once again, returned into a formulaic approach using the production companies, such as the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw an upswing in the producer - the leading men and women from the bands selected as much because of their eye candy appeal as any talent or ability to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become just as much a visible medium just as one aural one. Nevertheless, a powerful 'alternative' scene survived with these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Reggae and House. 1980s music laid the principles for therefore high of the background music we hear today.
