For everyone who spent my youth within the the 80s, the songs of these decade will stay the soundtrack to the key moments of our lives. Music acts as a time machine, transporting us back through time and rekindling memories, the two good and bad, and 1980s music provided a tune for every event in that tumultuous decade.

The 80s began in turmoil and social unrest and also the music reflected this requirement of change. The last decade began hanging on to the coattails of the Punk revolution that took direct action contrary to the bland musical fare in the late seventies, but finished stadium rock, manufactured produced in higher quantities pop along with a confidence and swagger that matched our planet's mood even as we entered the 90's in the spirit of optimism and hope with falling from the Iron Curtain in 1989. The dawn of the MTV era meant the visual appeal of your band was as vital as their musical ability which principle was seized upon with the New Romantic Movement, who dressed flamboyantly and daubed themselves with makeup -annoying their elders just as much as it delighted their peers. Having begun in this particular state of flux, 1980s music continued to evolve as new technology emerged and artists, musicians and movie makers did start to experiment. However, since the decade unfurled, and so the mainstream music, yet again, returned to some formulaic approach using the production companies, like the phenomenally successful 'Stock, Aitkin and Waterman' manufacture hit after hit after hit of disposable pop. This saw the increase in the producer - leading women and men from the bands selected just as much because of their eye candy appeal because talent or capability to write songs and play instruments. Music had truly become all the a visual medium being an aural one. Nevertheless, a robust 'alternative' scene survived throughout these times, as diverse as Indie rock and pop, Goth, Reggae and House. 1980s music laid the principles for thus much of the music we listen to today.
