The primary influential memories I have from my childhood is dad teaching me the best way hold a swimming pool game cue. Dad would never admit to as a 'shark' or 'hustling' but because I got older evidence became clearer. After, what was years, of staring longingly on the cues hanging majestically on the wall I was finally being given the chance to discover ways to use one. My Dad had long since reached the products player where he will make, things i now know to get simple shots, using nearly every billiard. This is not to imply that he had no idea the magnitude from the significance about picking the best pool cue. This is not just a privilege being taken lightly and lessons where you can have my up-most attention. I needed listened, with starry eyes, to stories of Dad visiting the pool hall, as a teen, perfecting his craft and leaving rewarded with extra jingle in his pocket. Imaginable the wonder of an child - someone was taken care of playing a sport! Really? I needed to know more about.

First suggestion. Dad instructed me to select a pool stick cue from the rack. Knowing that he had his 'special' best pool cue, I clued into the indisputable fact that this alternative held some importance. I picked up a 42 inch, one piece cue with diamond etching about the shaft and looked to Dad for approval. His response was, 'How should it feel?' It felt like I was holding the holy grail! I became still overwhelmed by the privilege rather than really being aware of what he meant by 'feel'. He demonstrated how you can form a 'crook' using my hand added to the table with my pointer finger raised and together with my thumb forming a circle for the cue to slide through, ensuring that as I drew it forward and backward the cue stayed true and would not wobble. Like several things, it was harder to complete compared to what my Dad made it look. By doing this he was teaching me the value of governing the cue smoothly to accomplish a clear shot. Now I wasn't actually hitting a cue ball, just practicing my stance, hand position and stoke. He told me, 'the pool stick cue should think that part of you, imagine it's your third arm, work as one unit heading to the cue ball.' Here ended his first lesson. I became left to train showing up in the imaginary ball. Over the following months I were looking forward to my lessons. Learning the different hand positions, angle shots, bank shots, etc. As I young teenager I could proudly proclaim that I had perfected the fluke shot! Next lesson was that most games didn't allow flukes and call shot was the usual rule. I learned the value of the angles available and suddenly geometry didn't seem so boring! When i was raised playing pool with Dad was our bonding time. It became the area for him not just to give the romance and knowledge in the sport, but where he told stories of his youth and gave advice to problems that just seemed better to discuss when pocketing the eight ball. Following your last fork full of dessert of the holiday meal was swallowed the issue always followed: 'Whose up for a bet on pool?' We'd all fall into line and head as a result of the swimming pool table to claim our just right the score board. Dad spent much time teaching his children also their kids (obviously any good couple of great-grandchildren) how you can play pool. Most of us realize what a wonderful privilege it was and we all treasure the beautiful memories we now have of bonding with him more than a number of games of Snooker and Billiards, that became this type of family tradition.
