My relationship with silk started a long time ago when my back started troubling me plus it became painful to show in your bed in the evening. Only wore a satin dress, turning would have been a little easier. Therefore i bought some silk and made my first silk sheet. With satin night clothes as well as a silk sheet there wasn't any resistance and nights were a lot more comfortable. Friends shared within my discovery, and so i started to making silk sheets for others too.

Silk later became tough to source locally, and thus in 2004 I undertook a vacation to China hoping of locating a suitable method to obtain fabric. Initially I discovered it tough to determine what I had been looking for as Chinese policy seems to actively discourage the export of unworked silk fabric. But after a fair quantity of endeavour, I used to be able to uncover a reliable method to obtain wide silk, ideal for luxury bedding. Silk is a strong fibre which will last for many years with care. I wash my silk, and satin, from the automatic washer over a gentle, cool cycle and a short spin. Use regular non-bleach detergent within the machine so when silk sheets dry quickly, drive them inside again after an hour or so. Glowing be tumble dried on the low heat cycle. Use a cool iron if desired. In my opinion, life is way too short to iron sheets, and so i never do! Heat, sun and halogen lighting are damaging to silk. Slubs and variations inside the weave are thought a part of silk's pure beauty. The material is kind on your sleeping skin (cheeks won't wrinkle!). Some skin moisturisers even contain silk proteins. Silk is perfect for allergy sufferers, as dust mites cannot live within its fibres. Insects don't eat silk. Both silk and satin pillow cases are known for their capacity to have a persons hairdo in place while one sleeps. Silk is warm in Winter and funky in Summer. I personally are in a location that is renowned for extremely humid and hot summers so am very grateful to the coolness in the fabric during hot spells. Silk works quite similar as modern self-wicking fabrics in removing moisture from the skin. Rather than threadcount like cotton, silk is measured in mommes (mm), that is a weight measurement. The silk i found great for used in making sheets is 16mm Habutai Silk. Habutai is among several silk fabric types, differentiated from the weave used.
